Nanoscience refers to the manipulation and control of matter at the nano level (a nanometer is one billionth of a meter). This science of the very small is a growing field that experts say has the potential to profoundly change society and significantly impact the economy.  Some estimates predict it will become a trillion dollar industry in only fifteen years, requiring over two million workers worldwide.  Over the past several years, a number of states have introduced legislation to support nanotechnology education and economic development initiatives to entice this growing industry to their states.
