NCSL: Health Information Technology Champions (HITCh)

Health Information Technology Champions (HITCh)

The National Conference of State Legislatures launched Project HITCh (Health Information Technology Champions) at its 2006 Annual Meeting to establish and develop state legislative policy expertise on health information technology. HITCh is made possible through the support of members of the NCSL Foundation for State Legislatures, who are active in shaping the project and carrying out its goals.  Phase II of the project kicked of this year at the HIMSS08 meeting.   The Partnership aims to strengthen the capacity of state legislators to respond to issues related to the use of technology to improve access, quality and effectiveness in healthcare.

The HITCh partnership serves state legislators interested in health information technology (HIT) and health information exchange (HIE), by providing information and technical assistance on important political and technical issues surrounding HIT and HIE, including:

Planning and HIE
Security and Privacy
Financing, including HIT in state health programs
Informatics Education
Public Health
HIT and Access; Health Reform and the Safety Net
Electronic Records
Clinical Applications, including telemedicine

HITCh also provides a framework for other HIT projects and activities, including work with the State Alliance for eHealth and continued efforts with AHIMA on the Development of State-level HIE Project.
