Renewable Energy Picture

NCSL has built a solid reputation in renewable energy policy, working closely with state legislators and legislative staff. By providing technical assistance, responding to information requests, testifying at state legislative hearings, sponsoring conferences and producing publications. NCSL staff supply  state legislators and legislative staff with the tools they need to develop informed renewable energy policy.

Program Overview

In an effort to reduce energy consumption, thereby reducing the demand for electricity produced by power plants and ultimately improving air quality, NCSL educates legislators and legislative staff on ways to increase energy efficiency in buildings cost effectively. To that end, NCSL has worked with state legislators to help legislators and legislative staff identify and eliminate impediments to improving energy efficiency and has identified innovative arrangements to finance installation of energy efficient technology in public buildings.

NCSL works closely with state legislators by providing technical assistance, responding to information requests, testifying at state legislative hearings, sponsoring conferences and producing publications. Through its publications and work with legislators, NCSL identifies issues in state energy codes for buildings and offers options for the use of energy efficient technology in new construction and in retrofitting older buildings. Public buildings, like schools and state office buildings, which consume large amounts of energy are targeted by NCSL to help legislators find cost-effective ways to improve energy efficiency.
