Gasoline and Alternative Fuels
July 2008
The skyrocketing cost of gasoline and other motor vehicle fuels has become a significant concern for both consumers and state legislatures. Most discussion in the states has focused on three main issues: tax rates on motor vehicle fuels, mechanisms to reduce fuel prices for consumers, and incentives for improving fuel efficiency or decreasing the demand for motor vehicle fuel. NCSL's motor fuel page provides information about each of these subjects. The page provides relevant materials from multiple resources including several different NCSL programs and other motor fuel experts. The page also provides a link to NCSL's Energy Legislation tracking database.
NCSL held a conference call for legislators and legislative staff on Thursday, July 17, to discuss gasoline prices and surrounding issues. Gasoline prices and policies were shared. View the presentations from the call online: http://www.ncsl.org/programs/energy/Gaspolicyagen08.htm.
